The majority of these injuries are sprains and are treated with bracing, physical therapy, and time. In some cases a severe injury may actually cause the ligament to be pulled away from the bone which may require surgical repair. This injury is commonly seen in football, soccer, and other contact sports. Pain and swelling may be felt on the inner aspect of the knee and some patients will feel some instability to the knee with walking. Recovery and healing will typically take 2-3 months depending on the severity of injury.
